How to choose safe, sustainable, high quality concrete…

The Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Concrete is currently presided by Mr. Pablo López-Fanjul, manager of General de Hormigones www.gedhosa.es (a company which belongs to the industrial branch of Corporación Masaveu).  For some time now, this association has been working on the creation of a certification programme for its members, with the objective of conveying to society that neither all concretes nor all concrete manufacturers are the same. The 600 concrete plants which belong to ANEFHOP, fulfill 90 per cent of the 142 requirements outlined under the “Hormigón Expert” seal, which demonstrates if concrete is safe, sustainable and of high quality. Although implementation is still in progress, a total of 400 members of the aforementioned association meet with all of the requirements and already have the certificate. By the end of this year, all members must meet 100% of the requirements.

According to the President of ANEFHOP: “All factories that do not have the seal by 30th June, 2015, will automatically be expelled from the association”.

In this regard, all of the concrete plants which form part of Masaveu Industria, there are currently 25 operating throughout Asturias, Galicia and Castilla y León, have earned the aforementioned seal of quality, which is based on three main pillars: safety, quality and environment. These three elements are controlled throughout the entire manufacturing process; from the acquisition of raw materials (cement, additives, aggregates), dosing, production, distribution and transport, up to the installation on-site.

The president of ANEFHOP, Mr. Pablo López-Fanjul, added that "our companies have moved the bar up a few notches over and above the legal requirements". He also reiterated that “public offices must recognise the need to dedicate resources to monitoring regulatory compliance, fiscal obligations and quality standards of ready-mixed concrete manufacturing companies. This is a necessary prerequisite if we want our country to enjoy a competitive concrete sector, on a par with our Eurpean neighbours, with a guarantee of continuity in time and job creation. Until then, at ANEFHOP we have decided to take charge by controlling our members’ standards of quality with the creation of this certificate”.
